Smriti Irani hails government initiatives for India’s success at Olympics

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday praised the Modi-led government for India’s recent success in sports in Delhi.

Talking about the BJP-led central government initiatives Union Minister Irani said this government has helped athletes shine on the international stage.

“Due to this support of the Centre, you saw India’s performance during the Olympics when India won its first gold medal in athletics. Even in the Paralympics, the 19 medals indicate that even our specially abled youth can bring laurels to the country through their talent,” Smriti Irani said.

Meanwhile, Irani also cited the example of the women’s national hockey team and said, “The nation saw how the Women’s Hockey team brought laurels once again. By establishing over 1000 Khelo India centers nationwide, PM has contributed to taking forward sporting skills. With TOPS, over 300 sportspersons availing benefits of Rs 5 Lakhs annually for the next 8 yrs.”

Earlier on Monday, Union minister Smriti Irani slammed Congress leader Ajay Rai over his ‘latke-jhatke’ jibe at her.

Taking to Twitter Irani tweeted, “Heard one of your provincial leaders have announced in an indecent manner that you would contest from Amethi in 2024. So is it definite that you will contest from Amethi? You won’t run off to another seat? You won’t be afraid??? PS: You & Mummy ji need to get your misogynistic goons a new speechwriter.”

Moreover, Congress leader Ajay Rai said, “Amethi is the Gandhi family’s seat and will remain so. Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and many members of the Gandhi family have served the constituency. Latke-jhatke dekar chali jaati hain (She does ‘latke jhatke’ and goes away).”

However, Rahul has won from Amethi three times in a row and now Rahul represents Kerala’s Wayanad constituency in the Lok Sabha.
