Shopkeeper fatally stabbed, suspect apprehended by police

In Balongi village, Mohali district, a 34-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death in his PG accommodation, sending shockwaves through the community. The victim, identified as Joginder Singh, was attacked multiple times with a knife, causing fatal injuries. Subsequently, the assailant, identified as Paras, fled the scene and hid in a nearby dirty drain, as captured by surveillance cameras.
Passersby who witnessed the crime promptly informed the police control room upon seeing Joginder’s lifeless body. The deceased, Joginder Singh alias Banti, was associated with a fast-food shop named “Mr. Grill” in Balongi, where Paras also resided on rent in Room No. 34.
Paras, originally from Una, Himachal Pradesh, is now facing charges of murder based on the statements given by Joginder’s brother Mohit. Paras was arrested by the police in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, and was presented in court, where he was remanded in custody for four days.
Joginder’s family revealed that he was married and had a five-year-old daughter residing with his wife in Delhi. Joginder had opened his fast-food shop just three months ago in Balongi. He had been facing financial difficulties, and his brother Mohit had been urging him to address his debts.
On December 7, around 3:30 PM, after having lunch, Joginder went to PGI to collect his induction and charger for his mobile, intending to reopen his shop after that. A heated argument ensued between Joginder and Paras in Joginder’s room, which escalated into a fatal attack. Paras assaulted Joginder with a knife, hitting him under the thigh and then slashing his neck four to five times.
The gruesome incident was captured by CCTV cameras, showing Joginder being dragged to a dirty drain beneath Paras’ rented room, where Paras dumped him. Paras was later seen leaving the premises on Joginder’s motorcycle, heading towards Chandigarh, from where he boarded a bus to Himachal Pradesh. The police apprehended Paras when he returned to Mohali.
