Nationalist Congress party chief Sharad Pawar, presided over a discussion on a number of topics on Wednesday at the YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai, including the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections as well as Maharashtra’s governance.
The Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Maharashtra government’s governance and the state’s present political climate were other topics of discussion at the meeting. NCP leader Rohit Pawar had earlier in the day stated that the meeting would cover the party’s strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), also arrived at Sena Bhawan in Mumbai to meet with party leaders.
According to sources, the meeting will be attended by several other office bearers and district presidents of the party.
The Supreme Court’s judgement and other ground-related concerns will be discussed by Thackeray.
The Supreme Court, last week made it clear that former Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was “not justified” to call for a floor test based on the request of the Eknath Shinde faction since he did not have enough objective material before him to conclude that the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had lost the confidence of the House.
A five-judge Constitution bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices MR Shah, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha said it could not disqualify the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government and reinstate Uddhav Thackeray as Chief Minister because the latter had chosen to resign instead of facing a test of strength in the assembly.
