In a bid to tackle the persistent issue of traffic jams, the traffic police in the district have enforced Section 144, imposing restrictions on heavy vehicles during specific hours. The ban on heavy vehicles is set from 8 am to 8 pm.
The Kalka-Pinjore area, in particular, has been experiencing traffic congestion during daylight hours, mainly attributed to heavy vehicles at traffic lights. This has led to inconvenience for the general public.
Providing details, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, Sumer Pratap Singh, announced measures to alleviate the traffic situation. He mentioned that, for the next 60 days until March 2, 2024, heavy commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering Kalka and Pinjore areas between 8 am and 8 pm. The enforcement comes under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
Exceptions to the order include buses from roadways, cooperative societies, and heavy vehicles belonging to the Food and Supplies Department and other government offices, provided they have permission from the SDM or CTM. Violations of these orders will result in legal action under Section 188.
