SCHOOLS IN MEWAT WITNESS ACUTE SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS

Mewat district in Haryana has witnessed a shortage of school teachers for a long time and the scenario remains unchanged so far. Out of 8506 posts sanctioned for Mewat Cadre, 4181 posts still stand vacant i.e. more than 49 percent.

According to the data made available by the department concerned, 2560 posts of Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) were sanctioned while 2642 posts remain vacant so far constituting more than 65 percent. In the Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) category, 1626 posts were sanctioned and 1053 posts were not filled so far i.e. more than 60 percent of the total.

Apart from aforesaid, out of the total sanctioned 3906 posts of Primary Teachers ((PRT), only 2527 are filled while 1439 remain vacant.

According to the departmental information, a proposal pertaining to filling of the vacant posts has been sent to Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and 315 PGT, 370 TGT and 952 PRT in Mewat cadre will be recruited. The recruitment process is most likely to be completed in four to five months.

The post of the principal is of utmost importance in any school as the running school and to keep smooth functioning of administrative work depends on the principal to some extent. Out of the total sanctioned 102 posts, 18 are lying vacant and it is pertinent to mention that from 2015 to 2021, a total of 49 and 43 posts were appointed in 2019 and 2021, respectively, but all posts were recruited on promotional bases.

Besides, things are more worsen in terms of posts of headmasters in high schools in Mewat Cadre as out of the sanctioned 234 posts, 27 are lying vacant which is more than 10 percent of the total posts.

During last 7 years, 272 TGT were appointed on promotional as well as recruitment basis. While 150 PGT were directly recruited instead of promotional basis.
