Restores normalcy in J&K after restrictions lifted

The authorities lifted restrictions imposed under Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Section 144 on Saturday, restoring normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri town, officials said.

The border town experienced a curfew-like situation after district magistrate Vikas Kundal issued prohibitory orders to maintain law and order following a land dispute between two communities on Friday.

The restrictions were lifted after the day passed peacefully with no untoward incidents reported from anywhere. However, police and paramilitary forces remained in place in sensitive areas, according to officials.

Rajouri executive magistrate of the first class ordered the attachment of the piece of land in Rampur village under Section 145 of the CrPC until the case is resolved in court. Section 144 of the CrPC forbids gatherings of four or more people.
