Ravibir Singh Grewal emerges victorious in Chandigarh Golf Club election

In a recent election at the Chandigarh Golf Club, Ravibir Singh Grewal secured a victory, positioning himself for another term at the helm. Grewal, reflecting on his candidacy, emphasized his commitment to enhancing the golf course and club, with a primary focus on promoting golf within the Tricity. He reiterated the importance of fostering the sport among juniors, supporting budding golfers, and further developing facilities, including initiatives for ladies’ golf.
Grewal, drawing on his past tenures, highlighted efforts to upgrade course conditions and secure a 33-year lease with the UT administration in his previous presidency. He expressed a dedication to maintaining a balance between members, players, and facilities, emphasizing lessons learned and a continuous commitment to growing the sport locally and nationally.
When questioned about the prospect of Chandigarh hosting international golf events, Grewal pointed to ongoing efforts to showcase the club’s offerings. While already hosting prominent tournaments, such as the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational, he expressed optimism about the possibility of hosting higher-profile events, contingent on factors like sponsorship and continued focus.
Addressing recent notices from the UT Administration regarding construction activities and pollution norms, Grewal emphasized the need for close collaboration with the administration to resolve pending issues and maintain a positive relationship.
Responding to the perception of golf as an elite sport, Grewal contested this notion, highlighting initiatives such as hosting a caddies tournament and emphasizing the accessibility of training programs for all interested individuals. He acknowledged the challenge of managing limited facilities but stressed the importance of creating a balance between member activities, tournaments, and coaching programs.
Regarding his opponent, Birinder Singh Gill, Grewal characterized their relationship as close friends who have consistently worked for the betterment of the club. Acknowledging the democratic process, Grewal extended his wishes to Gill, recognizing that members would make their choice based on their preferences.
