Punjab Police expedite probe into Mohali blast

Days after a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the Mohali intelligence wing headquarters, CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced in which a vehicle can be seen passing in front of the building with blast lighting; the Punjab Police has recovered the launcher used in the attack and a number of suspects have been detained. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the strictest punishment will be meted out to those trying to spoil the state’s atmosphere; Mann also held a meeting with officials of Punjab Police and gathered information about the attack.

“A number of suspects have been rounded up and questioned. The launcher used in the attack has been recovered by the police and all leads developed in the case are being pursued meticulously,” a statement issued by the Mohali police said. In a big breakthrough, Punjab police have arrested one suspect in the Mohali blast case—Nishan Singh, who belongs to Tarn Tarandistrict of Punjab. As per police sources, he was the one who provided logistics support to the attackers. Police said Nishan Singh belongs to Tarn Taran district and has five cases in his name in Faridkot and Tarn Taran. As per Punjab police, Nishan Singh provided shelter to the two accused in Amritsar for three days before the RPG attack. The involvement of gangster-turned-terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda, who is believed to be in Pakistan, is also not being ruled out. Rinda has been taking the help of local gangsters to carry out anti-national activities here, police sources said. His name figured when a terror plot was foiled recently with the arrest of four suspected Pakistan-linked terrorists in Haryana’s Karnal. Rinda’s involvement was also present during the Ludhiana court complex blast case. Now police is carrying out investigation and looking for these suspects who came in a car and carried out this attack.
