Properties of drug peddler attached under Narco Act in Baramulla

In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, police on Thursday attached the properties of a notorious drug peddler under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The properties, comprising 9 Marlas of land and a double-story residential house with an estimated worth of approximately Rs 50 lakh, belong to Shabir Ahmad Sofi, a resident of Mazhama, Magam Budgam district, identified as a prominent figure in the drug trade.
According to police officials, the attachment of Sofi’s properties was executed under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985, in connection with case FIR No.05/2024 under sections 8/20,22 &29 NDPS Act registered at PS Kunzer.
Police investigations revealed that the attached property was unlawfully acquired during the course of their probe into drug-related offenses.
Under the ongoing “drug-free Baramulla” campaign, authorities have seized and attached properties linked to 16 notorious drug peddlers in the district, totaling an estimated value of 5.5 crores, highlighting the stringent measures being taken to curb the drug menace in the region.
Police have urged residents to collaborate by providing any information related to drug peddling activities in their neighborhoods, emphasizing that individuals involved in such illicit activities will face strict legal consequences as per the law.
The attachment of properties signals the administration›s resolve to combat the drug trade and its associated criminal networks, aiming to foster safer and drug-free communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
