Priyanka Chopra’s former NY restaurant Sona to shut down

On a post on Instagram, SONA shared that they will be downing the shutters after three years. The announcement from the New York-based restaurant read, “After more than three remarkable years, Sona will be closing. We have immense gratitude for everyone who walked through our doors. It’s been our greatest honour to serve you. Sona’s final service will be brunch on Sunday, June 30.”

Priyanka Chopra Jonas had launched Sona in 2021 alongside her friend and former business partner, Maneesh K Goyal. People magazine in August 2023 wrote that Priyanka Chopra Jonas was no longer a partner in the restaurant, which was launched with much fanfare in 2021. Her spokesperson shared the news stating, “Priyanka (Chopra) has stepped away from her partnership at Sona. Bringing Sona to life will invariably be a proud and significant moment in her career. Priyanka has always endeavoured to bring Indian culture to the fore through storytelling, whether that’s via engaging content for film and TV or a beautifully plated dish that embodies the haute cuisine of India. Stepping away from Sona allows her to broaden these ambitions on a more global scale and she’s excited about the possibilities that await.” Renowned US-based designer Bibhu Mohapatra commented on social media about the closing and said, “Sona was way more than just one of the most incredible restaurants in NYC’s culinary landscape. It was a cultural hub that brought communities together, a place for creatives to meet, ideate, and collaborate, and above all, a place that celebrated all of us, our culture, and ideas. Maneesh K. Goyal, your vision and voice made this happen, and the world is waiting with excitement for the next chapter you write. Love Sona and its golden chapter.”
