In a continued effort to combat the proliferation of drugs in society, the police have apprehended three drug peddlers in Awantipora & Budgam, recovering contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Awantipora, the Police Station Tral intercepted Mohd Amin Malik, a resident of Lurgam Tral, at a checkpoint in Bajwani Tral. A search revealed 2000 capsules of a banned drug in his possession. Malik has been taken into custody.
Additionally, a police team from the Police Post Toll Plaza intercepted a vehicle (Auto Rickshaw) driven by Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan of Hawal Srinagar near Toll Plaza Awantipora. Upon search, 52 grams of charas were seized from Chopan’s possession, leading to his arrest.
In Budgam, a police team from Police Post Hardpanzoo intercepted Bashir Ahmed Hajam at Qumiroo Crossing during routine naka checking. Despite attempting to flee upon seeing the police, Hajam was apprehended, and a search yielded 4 kgs 660 grams of Poppy Straw-like substance in powder form from his possession. He has been taken into custody.
Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective Police Stations, and investigations are underway.
Authorities urge the public to report any instances of drug peddling or other crimes to the nearest police establishment or by dialing 112. Cooperation from citizens is essential in curbing the menace of drugs, and the police assure the community of stringent action against criminals in accordance with the law.
