Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya on Saturday, following the inauguration of the Ayodhya Railway Station. The welcoming reception included a large number of supporters showering petals at his convoy as he waved to the crowd.
Built by the Airports Authority of India in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh, the state-of-the-art airport’s Phase 1 development cost exceeded Rs 1,450 crore. The terminal building, spanning 6,500 sqm, is designed to accommodate around 10 lakh passengers annually. Notably, the facade of the terminal depicts the architectural style of the upcoming Shri Ram Mandir of Ayodhya, with interiors adorned with local art, paintings, and murals depicting the life of Bhagwan Shri Ram.
The Ayodhya Airport’s terminal boasts various sustainability features, including an insulated roofing system, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, landscaping with fountains, a water treatment plant, a sewage treatment plant, a solar power plant, and other features aimed at achieving a GRIHA 5-star rating.
This airport is expected to enhance regional connectivity, stimulate tourism and business activities, and generate new employment opportunities. Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, highlighting the importance of air connectivity for Ayodhya. He noted that the project was completed in a record time of 20 months, contributing to improved connectivity and the overall development of Ayodhya.
