PM Modi congratulates Kharge on winning Congress presidential election

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mallikarjun Kharge for becoming Congress Party president on Wednesday.

Taking to Twitter PM Modi said, ” “My best wishes to Shri Mallikarjun Kharge Ji for his new responsibility as President of @INCIndia. May he have a fruitful tenure ahead. @kharge.”

Earlier in the day, Congress’s central election authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry announced Kharge’s name.

Meanwhile, Kharge won the party’s presidential elections by 7,897 whereas Tharoor received 1,072 votes.

After 24 years Kharge became the first non-Gandhi Congress president and will take charge of the new role on 26 October.

Moreover, after being elected as the Congress president Kharge said, “I want to thank Sonia Gandhi on behalf of all party workers. Under her leadership, we formed our government at the Centre twice,”

Kharge also congratulated Shashi Tharoor who was his opponent and said, “I want to congratulate my partner Shashi Tharoor as well. I met him and discussed how to take the party forward.”

We all have to work like workers at the party, nobody is big or small at the party. We have to unitedly fight against the fascist forces that are attacking the democratic institutions under the garb of communalism,” Kharge stated.
