PGIMER hosts emergency nursing excellence: Best practices in PVC care bundles

The Division of Acute Care and Emergency Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, and Infection Control Team, PGIMER, Chandigarh, jointly organised the Emergency Nursing Excellence program on 25th April 2024 at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

Dr Mohan Kumar H, the Organising secretary, welcomed all the nursing officers from the emergency team to the event by expressing gratitude for the nurses’ dedication and commitment to patient care. Prof Navneet Sharma, the event’s Chairperson and the head of the Division of Acute Care and Emergency Medicine, emphasised the importance of collaboration among nurses. He acknowledged their critical role in healthcare and emphasised the importance of continuous learning and improvement. Prof Manisha Biswal, from the Infection Control team, shared best practices for intravenous catheter care in emergency settings. Her insights highlighted infection prevention strategies.

Dr Saurabh Sharda, a faculty member from the Emergency team, provided an insightful overview of the program, setting the stage for the day’s discussions. Ms Jasmeen (Emergency team) and Mrs Manjinder (Infection Control team) educated attending nurses on evidence-based care bundles.
Dr Shivansh highlighted the evidence and the recent technologies available for peripheral venous catheter insertion and prevention of complications.

These bundles are crucial in reducing infection rates associated with vascular access devices. A practical session allowed nurses to hone their skills. Dr Ashish Behera, the Joint Organizing Secretary, conducted a quiz program for emergency nurses, fostering engagement and knowledge sharing. Nurses received gifts as a token of appreciation. Dr. Atul Saroch, a faculty member from the Emergency team, felicitated the Chairpersons and Speakers for their valuable contributions to the Nursing Workshop’s success.
