PERMISSION TO MAMATA BANERJEE FOR NEPAL VISIT DENIED BY CENTRE

KOLKATA: According to sources, the Ministry of External Affairs has reportedly denied permission to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit Nepal for attending a general convention of the country’s ruling party, Nepali Congress, which is scheduled from December 10 to12. Mamata Banerjee was recently invited to visit Nepal by the ruling Nepali Congress, and Chief Minister had also accepted the invitation. Subsequently, the state secretariat sent this invitation to the foreign ministry for approval. Nevertheless, it is being reported that Mamata will not be able to go to Nepal at the moment.

Mamata Banerjee would have required only a visa to visit Nepal, since visiting Nepal from India does not require a passport. West Bengal’s northern district of Darjeeling shares about a 100 km border with the neighboring country. Banerjee, who is travelling in the northern Bengal districts, would have left for Nepal in the evening on Friday had the approval come.
