Pawan Bansal engages with Sector 15 Book Market issues, pledges solutions

Former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader, Pawan Kumar Bansal, paid a visit to the Sector 15 Book Market to address the longstanding concerns raised by the shopkeepers. The shopkeepers, who have been operating their establishments for 15-20 years, expressed their gratitude for Bansal’s support during his previous tenure and highlighted the need for attention to their evolving requirements in the current administration.

The shopkeepers brought forward various challenges, including the absence of ownership rights for their shops, inadequate infrastructure, and the changing dynamics of book sales in the digital age.

Upon hearing the concerns of the shopkeepers, Pawan Kumar Bansal reassured them that, similar to his previous tenure as the Member of Parliament, he would actively work towards resolving their issues. He acknowledged the gratitude expressed by the shopkeepers for the support provided earlier and assured them that their current challenges would not go unnoticed.

During his visit to the Sector 15 Book Market, the shopkeepers raised several key concerns that need urgent attention:

  • The shopkeepers are seeking ownership rights for their shops to secure their future and provide a sense of stability.
  • Permission to renovate and raise the height of shops is requested to prevent water damage during the monsoon season.
  • With the decline in sales of old books due to the digital age, the shopkeepers are looking for strategies to adapt and diversify their offerings.
  • Shopkeepers are requesting the categorization of their businesses under general trade, allowing them to expand beyond old books and stationery.
  • The provision of drinking water facilities in the market’s toilets is a crucial requirement for both shopkeepers and visitors.
  • The establishment of a café or refreshment booth in the market is proposed to enhance the overall experience for visitors.
  • Shopkeepers are advocating for the municipal corporation to take responsibility for collecting bills for public toilets, relieving the financial burden on individual shopkeepers.
The installation of benches for seating within the market is suggested for the convenience of visitors.
  • Shopkeepers are facing issues with Nagar Nigam officials confiscating books, resulting in financial losses. This issue requires immediate attention.
