Pawan Bansal applauds historic SC ruling against electoral bonds

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Pawan Kumar Bansal has lauded the Supreme Court’s ruling on electoral bonds, considering it a historic decision. Bansal noted that the Supreme Court not only identified flaws in the electoral bond scheme of the Modi government, deeming it a violation of laws enacted by Parliament, but also contrary to the principles of the Indian Constitution. He expressed appreciation for and welcomed this decision.

Describing the electoral bond scheme as the most non-transparent method of political funding, consistently condemned by all opposition parties, Bansal remarked that it was recklessly used by the government to amass funds and undermine its adversaries. With the Supreme Court’s decision, Bansal highlighted that the BJP, which clandestinely accumulated finances through the scheme, will now face accountability, marking a triumph for the right to information.

Bansal emphasized that the BJP attempted to undermine democracy by excluding electoral bonds from the purview of the Right to Information. However, he stated that the court’s decision will reinforce the supremacy of votes over financial contributions. According to Bansal, this decision brings a ray of hope for democracy, as the scheme was implemented to bolster the BJP, with a significant portion of funding through electoral bonds going to the party. Bansal added, “What the opposition has consistently alleged, that the BJP primarily caters to the interests of corporates by accepting substantial sums, has been clarified today.”
