Partial restoration of Srinagar-Jammu highway; officials advise caution

After a temporary closure, authorities have partially restored the Srinagar-Jammu highway for vehicular movement, according to traffic officials on Monday. A Jammu and Kashmir traffic official stated, “Partial restoration (single way) has been initiated at Dalwas on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW-44), with efforts underway to clear stranded Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) such as trucks. However, individuals are strongly advised against embarking on journeys along the Jammu-Srinagar NHW until the road is fully restored.”

The official further urged people to stay updated by contacting the Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban for the latest information, providing contact numbers for assistance: 9419993745 and 1800-180-7043.

Earlier reports indicated that the road surface at Dalwas was deemed unfit for traffic, prompting officials to caution against travel on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW until the surface conditions are deemed safe.

As efforts continue to restore full functionality to the highway, travellers are advised to exercise caution and stay informed regarding the road conditions to ensure safe and smooth journeys.
