Pak Finance Minister on US visit; says, Ready to buy fuel from Russia on ‘India rate’

Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s finance minister was on a US trip. In his statement, he said that his country is ready to buy fuel from Russia at the same rate as India.

Ishaq Dar is the newly appointed finance minister of the country. He made these remarksduring an official visit to the United States (US). During his interaction with the media, the minister also asserted that the West would have no problem in importing the discounted fuel as Pakistan recently is in a devastated phase after suffering from the floods. “I have held 58 meetings with the heads of international financial institutions, the US, Saudi Arabia and other countries’ authorities during my 4-day stay in Washington,” The News quoted Ishaq Dar as saying. The Pakistani finance minister stated at a roundtable discussion on Pakistan’s floods that representatives from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and UNDP had delivered a joint report there.

The Pakistani minister quoted the findings, saying, “Pakistan suffered losses to the tune of USD 32.40 billion due to floods, and more than USD 16 billion are needed by Pakistan for the restoration work.”
According to a media source, Pakistan may be facing a food crisis as wheat output is predicted to decline in the upcoming Rabi season as a result of farmers being forced to hunt for alternative crops due to low profit margins.

Pakistan, which has been severely affected by the enormous floods across the whole nation, is now preparing to purchase wheat from sanction-hit Russia in light of the current conflict in Ukraine.
We want to buy wheat from Russia, the Pakistani ambassador to Moscow, Shafqat Ali Khan, said in an interview with the news agency TASS. “The two technical sides are already discussing that.”
The Pakistani ambassador said they look to Russia as a long-term and steady partner when it comes to food deliveries amid the food crisis.
We look to Russia as a long-term, dependable partner when it comes to food supply for us, he added, adding that formerly, it used to be different other countries.
