OTT, TV and cinema can be synergised: Asmita Sood

Asmita Sood, who began by acting in south films is finding herself in the middle of the OTT v/s Television v/s Cinema debate. Asmita began by working in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies and did 9 films before moving to popular television shows on Star Plus and Sony Entertainment Television. The former Miss India finalist is all set to be seen in ‘Poison 2’, the next season of the superhit franchise streaming on Zee 5. Speaking about the same, she said “I have been able to manoeuvre from films to television to OTT, I find these platforms to be very different from each other in terms of content, censorship, storylines, actors, budgets, etc. But I would not say that they compete with each other. Each platform has its own advantages – watching content in Cinema has an entire experience of luxury around it with a large screen, superb sound quality and uninterrupted viewing experience.

Similarly watching television with family is an unparalleled activity throughout the country. OTT has made the content enter our bedrooms with a smartphone and internet connection. Asmita was last seen in Alt Balaji’s ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai 3’. “As the phrase goes, ‘Take it as it comes. Aage Aage Dekha Jaayega’. OTT platforms have had a positive impact on a lot of factors – the major one being global reach and the second being providing a medium to small budgeted filmmakers. Our content can reach overseas easily where it had limited exposure earlier; also breaking the language barriers. These platforms are not adversaries but allies to each other. Content could be personalised for these platforms and revenues could be multiplied. Actors like me can have multiple focal points for all the platforms. I am sure that the synergy between these platforms will redefine the way we consume content and we will see the emergence of a collaborative ecosystem.” said Asmita as she signed off
