With the beginning of the monsoon session of Himachal Legislative Assembly, BJP brought a stop work motion on Monday demanding discussion on the disaster. On this, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that discussion on the disaster is already included in the agenda of the House. Therefore there is no need for a new proposal to discuss this.
As soon as Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu started speaking on the proposal of declaring a national disaster after the arrangement of the Speaker, the opposition got up in the House and started shouting slogans. After some time the opposition walked out of the House. After about half an hour the opposition returned to the House and participated in the discussion. Chief Minister Sukhu said that the disaster has caused a direct loss of Rs 9000 crore and direct and indirect loss of more than Rs 12 thousand crore. 441 people died. The livelihood sector was badly affected. Still, the opposition is not serious about the disaster and is making political gains.
