OpenAI Launches Upgraded GPT-4 Turbo for ChatGPT Plus Subscribers

Several media outlets reported that OpenAI unveiled an upgraded version of GPT-4 Turbo on Wednesday, which is now available through an Application Programming Interface (API) and accessible to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus. GPT-4 Turbo signifies the latest generative AI model developed by the company, now trained with data up to December 2023.

The enhanced model comes with advanced data processing capabilities, allowing it to analyze text in JSON format and perform function calls to generate JSON code snippets. These snippets enable developers to automate tasks within their integrated applications, including sending emails, posting online, or making purchases according to an Indian Express report.

According to a recent report, developers now have the opportunity to utilize the upgraded API, which supports up to 128,000 tokens. This advancement enables the deployment of GPT-4 Turbo for tasks such as analyzing images, including identifying different types of food from around the world. Moreover, the model exhibits improved capabilities in generating computer code. Access to the GPT-4 Turbo API allows developers to easily incorporate the latest model into their software and services, as highlighted in a national newspaper.

The enhanced GPT-4 Turbo now possesses the ability to create complete websites by generating authentic code and analyzing images to generate relevant outputs based on content and context. The version of GPT-4 Turbo equipped with vision capabilities, accessible via JSON mode, is now open to ChatGPT Plus subscribers for $20 per month. Additionally, this version is offered in various editions of ChatGPT available on the ChatGPT store. Users have the option to upgrade to ChatGPT-4 Turbo via Microsoft’s Copilot, selecting between creative and precise modes.

Earlier this year, in January, OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, announced various updates to its AI models and pricing structure in response to heightened competition. The pricing for GPT-3.5 Turbo was reduced, and GPT-4 Turbo received enhancements to address user concerns about its perceived “laziness.”

While the industry eagerly awaits the launch of GPT-5, other models have made notable progress in matching or even surpassing the capabilities of their predecessors. Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus, launched in March, has outperformed GPT-4 in the closed-source models leaderboard, closely trailed by Google’s Gemini Pro, as said by IE.
