One killed, 5 saved from Udupi beach in Karnataka

At Malpe beach in Karnataka’s coastal Udupi district, five people were rescued by lifeguards while one person perished, according to authorities on Wednesday.

Salam Cherry, a youth from Bengaluru, and Abrar, a youth from Mysuru, both went missing on Tuesday after being dragged into the water by powerful waves.

After being dragged into the water by powerful waves on Tuesday, two teenagers—Salam Cherry, from Bengaluru, and Abrar, from Mysuru—went missing.

Both of them were rescued by lifeguards who sprang to action right away. Both men were admitted at The KMC hospital in Manipal.

However, Abrar breathed his last without responding to treatment, police said.

“In another case, Toshib from Mysuru attempted suicide, but alert life guards succeeded in saving him”, police said.

After being swept away by the strong waves, Senthil from Salem, Tamil Nadu, Basaraju from Bijapur, Namaz, and Soham Gosh from Bengaluru all vanished.

The lifeguards were able to save all four men. Police in Malpe have reported cases, and an investigation is ongoing.
