Omar Abdullah reaffirms NC’s commitment to I.N.D.I.A. Bloc amidst electoral speculation

In response to recent statements regarding the electoral strategy of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), party leader Omar Abdullah clarified the party’s stance, affirming its continued allegiance to the I.N.D.I.A. alliance.

Following Farooq Abdullah’s declaration earlier today that the NC would contest elections independently, Omar Abdullah emphasized the party’s integral role within the I.N.D.I.A. bloc. Addressing reporters, he underscored the importance of unity within the opposition to counter the BJP’s influence, stating, “We were a part of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance and we still are.”

Omar Abdullah further elaborated on ongoing discussions with the Congress regarding a potential arrangement for three out of the six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasized the necessity of strategic alliances to achieve broader objectives, noting that “small sacrifices” may be required for the greater goal of reclaiming seats from the BJP.

While acknowledging the desire of NC workers to contest all six seats independently, Omar Abdullah reiterated the party’s openness to entering into seat-sharing agreements with the Congress. He emphasized that the NC remains committed to the I.N.D.I.A. grouping, despite recent departures by founding members, expressing optimism about reaching an agreement with the Congress in the near future.

Dismissing speculations about the NC joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, Omar Abdullah reiterated the party’s ideological stance and its dedication to opposing communal forces.

Earlier today, Farooq Abdullah had unequivocally stated the NC’s intention to contest elections alone, signaling a departure from previous alliances. However, Omar Abdullah’s subsequent remarks clarified the party’s position, emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships while maintaining the overarching goal of opposing the BJP and its allies.
