The District Food Security Officer, Dr. Gaurav Sharma, conducted a meticulous inspection of various dairy farms, eateries, grocery stores, cold storage facilities, and food manufacturing factories today, along with other health officials. This initiative, directed by the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Department, Haryana, Panchkula, aimed to scrutinize the quality of food items during the festive season.
During the inspection, samples of food items were collected from the shops to be sent to the laboratory for examination. Dr Gaurav Sharma explained that under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, after collecting samples of food items, they are sent to the food laboratory in Karnal for analysis. Subsequently, any food items found unsuitable for consumption are disposed of on the spot.
The District Food Security Officer emphasized that all shopkeepers have been warned against selling stale and adulterated sweets. He stated that strict action would be taken against any shopkeeper found selling adulterated or substandard food items.
During the inspection, samples were collected from Rounak Sweets (prepared samosas), Mai Fras Retail Private Limited (prepared white sauce pasta), Lazeez Rasoi (rajaama and yellow dal), and Goyal Chandigarh Sweets (coconut laddoo and chamcham). These samples were sent to the lab for testing to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
This proactive inspection is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the quality and safety of food items in the region, especially during the festive season. The District Food Security Officer urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any concerns regarding the quality of food items to the authorities for prompt action.
