The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has initiated legal action against an official from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) over allegations of soliciting a bribe from a surgeon in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, according to an ACB statement.
The surgeon had obtained the necessary permissions to conduct health check-ups and issue medical certificates to employees at various factories and facilities in the district. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Palghar ACB, Dayanand Gawde, disclosed this essential background information.
The accused official purportedly insisted that the surgeon pay him Rs 50 for each individual medically examined between November 2022 and June 2023. This amounted to a total of Rs 31,500 for the examination of 630 individuals during the specified period. Additionally, the official allegedly implied that further collaboration would depend on compliance with these demands.
The surgeon promptly lodged a formal complaint with the Palghar ACB, which promptly launched a preliminary investigation.
In response to the ACB’s complaint, the Palghar police took action on Wednesday, registering charges against the DISH official in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case remains under investigation.
