Northern Railways to commence Baramulla-Sangaldan section train services

In a significant development, the Northern Railways is on the verge of realizing a long-awaited connection, with plans to commence train services on the 184-kilometer Baramulla to Sangaldan sections of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project (USBRL) starting February 20th, according to authoritative sources.
A senior Railway Official confirmed the upcoming introduction of a new MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) and DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) train services, bridging the gap between Baramulla and Sangaldan sections, marking a crucial milestone in the USBRL project.
“The work on Sangaldan to Katra in Reasi district is also nearing completion. Though there is no exact deadline, the project is in the final stage. Ninety-six percent of the project has been completed, and work is in full swing on the remaining 4%,” the official revealed, shedding light on the progress of the ambitious rail link project.
Despite encountering myriad challenges, the Northern Railways has been steadfastly working towards the completion of the 272-kilometer Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, underscoring the strategic importance and urgency attached to the project. In another momentous event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to virtually inaugurate the recently completed 48-kilometer railway line between Banihal to Sangaldan, along with the iconic Chenab Rail Bridge, on February 20th, further cementing the connectivity between regions and enhancing accessibility for commuters and travelers alike.
