Nominations filed outside Trinamool’s final list in Diamond Harbour seat

Trinamool Congress has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Now, it is over its pre-poll candidate in Diamond Harbour constituency.

It is reported that nominations are being submitted for re-election of party candidate in TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s parliamentary constituency apart from the list approved by the party leadership.

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has already announced that the list of candidates which was signed by the party leadership and sent to the districts is the final one.

According to sources, nominations are being submitted according to the list distributed from Abhishek’s office. The party is going to take strict action against those who act outside the list and submit nominations, the sources said.

A top party leader said: “This should be considered as a direct insult to the instructions of the Trinamool leader. In that case, it is important to take the necessary steps in the interest of discipline.”

The Trinamool leadership did not recognise the first published list which is still available on the party’s official website and Facebook page. Because the first list is still uploaded on the website, the candidates are confused whether or not to withdraw their nominations and are therefore protesting in various places.

Although the party did not announce a name in the approved second list, nominations were submitted in several wards of Diamond Harbour Municipality as Trinamool candidates. One of them is Moumita Das, daughter of outgoing mayor Pranab Das. Former mayor Meera Sarkar is also in the fray.

At the same time, 16 Trinamool candidates submitted nomination papers to the Diamond Harbour subdivisional officer.

The name of Rajarshi Das, a former youth president of Diamond Harbour Town Trinamool, was on the first list. However, he was dropped from the second list. He submitted his nomination on Wednesday.

Mamata’s directive was disregarded in the pre-poll nomination in South 24 Parganas. Trinamool state general secretary Kunal Ghosh and former Canning MLA Saukat Mollah have been given the responsibility of removing state minister Arup Biswas from the charge of coordination in the district.

According to Trinamool sources, the party has also demanded a report from the district leadership of South 24 Parganas to find out why the party leader’s directive was disobeyed.
