WhatsApp’s New Feature Allows You To Hide Your Mobile Number With Usernames

WhatsApp is set to roll out a new feature aimed at bolstering user privacy with its upcoming update, dubbed ‘Username and PIN.’ According to WABetaInfo, this innovative addition will enable users to replace their phone numbers with unique, memorable usernames, offering an extra layer of privacy.

Enhanced Privacy with Usernames

The new feature, currently available to WhatsApp Android beta version 2.24.18.2 users, will allow individuals to use a username instead of their phone number for new interactions. This change is designed to improve phone number privacy and offer users more flexibility in managing their privacy settings. For those using stable Android versions, the feature will be accessible in a future update.

PIN Code for Added Security

In addition to the username option, WhatsApp is also exploring the inclusion of an optional PIN code feature. This PIN will serve as an extra layer of security, especially when interacting with people you haven’t met before. Users will have the option to set a four-digit PIN that they can share with select individuals. Only those who know the PIN will be able to connect with you on WhatsApp.

A Step Forward in Privacy Control

While the new feature enhances privacy, it’s worth noting that users who already have your phone number will still be able to message you, even if the PIN feature is enabled. However, the username feature allows for a more controlled approach to initiating new conversations.

Overall, this update provides WhatsApp users with greater control over who can reach them and how they manage their privacy on the platform.
