New building of Parliament notified as the Parliament House of India

The new Indian Parliament building was designated as the Parliament House on Monday by the Lok Sabha. Today’s sessions of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will take place in the new Parliament building.

“The Speaker, Lok Sabha is pleased to notify the new building of Parliament
situated in the precincts of the Parliament House on Plot Number 118, New Delhi, east of the existing Parliament House with Raisina road to the south and Red Cross road to the north, to be, hereon, designated as the Parliament House of India,” read the notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on September 18.

Siddharth Mahajan, the Joint Secretary, issued the announcement. The Central Hall program, which will be held today at 11 AM in front of members of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, is currently being prepared at the old Parliament building. The Central Hall of the former Parliament will host a celebration to “commemorate the rich legacy of the Parliament of India and resolve to make Bharat a developed Nation by 2047.”

Prior to the special session of the Parliament in the new building, the security personnel at the Parliament building could also be seen wearing the new uniform. New uniforms have been provided for the marshals, security personnel, chamber attendants, and drivers, who must wear them once the new parliament building is operational.

The new dress code calls for khaki trousers, cream-colored jackets, cream shirts with pink lotus motifs, brightly colored sarees with jackets for women, and turbans for marshals. Instead of safari suits, security guards at the Parliament building will now wear uniform-style clothing with a camouflage pattern. After a discussion on parliamentary democracy over the previous 75 years, both Houses adjourned on Monday. The presiding officers announced that the proceedings would resume on Tuesday afternoon in the new Parliament building.
