Neetu Kapoor Reveals Rishi Kapoor “Was Never A Friend” to Ranbir and Riddhima on Koffee With Karan 8

The latest episode of Koffee With Karan 8 offered more than just caffeine-infused conversations, as veteran actresses Zeenat Aman and Neetu Kapoor delved into their cinematic journeys, family dynamics, and personal experiences. Neetu Kapoor, reminiscing about her late husband Rishi Kapoor, opened up about the actor’s reserved nature, especially towards their children, Ranbir and Riddhima.

Neetu Kapoor reflected on the New York days when Rishi Kapoor underwent cancer treatment. She shared that it was during this challenging time that he finally opened up emotionally to his family. Despite the sadness associated with that period, Neetu Kapoor chose to focus on the positive aspects, describing it as the “best year of my life.”

In a candid revelation, she disclosed that Rishi Kapoor “was never a friend” to their children, maintaining a certain distance throughout their upbringing. Despite Rishi Kapoor’s affectionate nature, there was a reluctance to express love openly. Neetu Kapoor explained, “Chintu Ji (Rishi Kapoor) is a very loving person. He had a lot of love in him. But there was something he never really showed his love. He always kept his distance and, you know, bullied people, not showing his love. Especially with me and my children, he was like a big thing. Respect and all, and with that, he lost out on a lot with his children. He was never a friend to them.”

The actress fondly recalled the year in New York when Rishi Kapoor transformed, expressing his love and warmth. Neetu Kapoor shared that they had the “best time” during that period.

Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, who first met on the sets of the 1974 film “Zehreela Insaan,” got married in 1980. The iconic couple shared the screen in several successful films, and after their marriage, they continued to collaborate in movies like “Love Aaj Kal,” “Do Dooni Chaar,” “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” and “Besharam,” which also featured their son, Ranbir Kapoor.

On the professional front, Neetu Kapoor is set to co-star in a project alongside Sunny Kaushal and Shraddha Srinath, directed by Milind Dhaimade, following her appearance in the successful film “JuggJug Jeeyo.”
