The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has called upon Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take decisive action against BJP Member of Parliament, Ramesh Bidhuri, for his contentious remarks made during a session in the Lower House.
Clyde Crasto, the national spokesperson of the NCP’s faction led by Sharad Pawar, expressed his dismay at the conduct of BJP MPs Harsh Vardhan and Ravi Shankar Prasad, who appeared to be amused rather than intervening or rectifying Bidhuri’s inappropriate comments. Crasto questioned why Bidhuri had not faced suspension yet, urging the Speaker to take immediate action. He also inquired whether the BJP would discipline Bidhuri or promote him.
Bidhuri’s comments, directed at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) member Kunwar Danish Ali during a discussion on the “success of Chandrayaan-3” in the Lok Sabha, sparked outrage among opposition leaders, who demanded strict repercussions.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla acknowledged the gravity of the situation and issued a stern warning to Bidhuri about potential “strict action” if such behavior is repeated. However, Crasto questioned the leniency shown, speculating whether it was due to Bidhuri’s affiliation with the BJP. He also pointed out that the Defence Minister had expressed regret in the House immediately after Bidhuri’s objectionable remarks on Thursday night.
