Mumbai and neighbouring districts to witness showers throughout week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rain for Mumbai on Monday, with no weather warnings issued for the city or its neighboring districts.
While Mumbai is expected to experience relatively subdued and less intense rainfall in the coming week, IMD officials suggest that the city might witness another surge of monsoon showers during the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities beginning on September 19. According to Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD Mumbai, “We are expecting the formation of a low-pressure area between September 14-15, which may lead to significant rainfall after September 16. The next three to four days will be crucial, and we should have a clearer picture by the middle of this week.”
Following a period of heavy rainfall last week, the intensity of showers has decreased once again. In the past 24 hours until Monday morning, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 1.17 mm of rain in the eastern suburbs, 0.85 mm in the western suburbs, and 0.81 mm in the island city division. Meanwhile, data provided by the BMC indicates that the water levels in the seven lakes supplying water to the city reached 96.8% of their total capacity on Monday morning. The total water volume in these lakes now stands at 14.01 lakh million litres. Comparatively, on the same day last year, the water stock was at 98%, while in 2021, it was at 96.3%.
