MUKUL NEVER SPOKE BADLY ABOUT MAMATA: SAUGATA ROY

Although Mukul Roy has become Krishnanagar South MLA on a BJP ticket in the Assembly elections, there is still a lot of speculation about him in state politics. There are speculations that Mukul Roy might rejoin the Trinamool camp. Nevertheless, whatever Trinamool MP Saugata Roy said recently made the environment even more dubious.

“Since the results of the elections were announced, many defecting leaders have wanted to return to the grassroots,” Roy said.

“Someone would apologize or someone would again rebel against the party, giving birth to speculations,” he added.

In an interview with the media, he admitted that many BJP leaders were in touch with Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. However, the final decision will be taken by CM Mamata Banerjee, he said. According to Saugata Roy, those who are communicating can be divided into two parts, hardliners and softliners.

Saugata said that several leaders who have left the party and also openly insulted Mamata Banerjee are hardliners. And the rest are softliners— leaders who never insulted Banerjee even after leaving the team.

To explain further, Saugata Roy compared Mukul Roy and Shuvendu Adhikari as examples. He said that after Shuvendu Adhikari left the party, he used bad language, but Mukul Roy never said bad things against Mamata.

Amid rumours, the statement is a huge departure from the strongly guarded response on Mukul Roy so far.

Rumours of Mukul Roy’s reversion to TMC started brewing earlier when Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee, a Trinamool Congress MP from Diamond Harbour, visited a city hospital to enquire about the health of Krishna Roy. Krishna Roy is wife of Mukul Roy. Not only that, the West Bengal BJP on Tuesday held a high-powered organizational meeting of its office bearers in Kolkata. This meeting, after the loss in state assembly elections last month, saw the absence of Mukul Roy. However, it was cleared out later that since Roy’s wife was unwell, that was why he could not attend the crucial meeting.
