Pravesh Shukla, the suspect who was allegedly seen on camera peeing on another man, has been taken into jail, police said on Wednesday.
Anjulata Patle, Sidhi’s Additional Superintendent of Police, stated that the accused is now being questioned and that additional legal action will be taken shortly.
While addressing the media, ASP Patle said, “We have taken the accused (Pravesh Shukla) into custody. He is under interrogation. Further legal action in the matter will be taken soon.”
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 294, 504 of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST Act. Earlier on Tuesday Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that instructions have been given to deliver the strictest punishment to the accused in the incident.
According to the police, Shukla was apprehended at 2 am and taken in for questioning when he was trying to evade being arrested by moving from one location to another.
Shukla was seen smoking a cigarette and peeing on a tribal man who was lying on the ground in a viral video. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the state’s chief minister, ordered a complaint under the strict National Security Act against him after the video sparked a political controversy in the state.
Some people are reacting on social media after watching the video and demanding for immediate justice for the victim.
CM Chouhan said that the state government will not spare him at any cost and punishment of the accused will become a moral lesson for everyone.
While addressing the media in Bhopal, CM Chouhan said, “I have instructed to give the accused the strictest punishment. It should be a moral lesson for everyone. We won’t spare him. An accused has no religion, caste or party. Accused is an accused.”
The incident took place in the district’s Kubri hamlet, and the widely circulated video purportedly captures the accused urinating on the victim’s face while intoxicated. The accused, Pravesh Shukla, a local of Kubri village, has been named. Dasmat Ravat, a 36-year-old native of the district’s Karaundi village, has been named as the victim.
According to the police, an accusation has been made against the defendant at the Bahari police station in the district under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 294, 504, and section 3(1)(r)(s) of the SC/ST Act, and NSA has also been imposed on him as per the chief minister’s directive.
Also, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra reacted to the matter and said that this is a very condemnable incident. “Strict action will be taken against the accused,” Mishra said.
