New Delhi: Following the Income Tax raid on the aides of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, the Election Commission Deputy Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar has summoned the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and Additional Chief Home Secretary to Delhi on 5 January.
The income tax raids happened in Madhya Pradesh last year regarding the use of black money in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
The Chief Secretary of the state government, Iqbal Singh Bains, and Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department, Dr Rajesh Rajaura, will have to clarify in front of the Election Commission on the action they have taken against the accused so far and how they intend to proceed. The EC has asked the officials to come up with a blueprint of their plans and allowed them time to do so.
In a letter sent by Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar to the Chief Secretary, it is clearly written that the CBDT i.e. Central Board of Direct Taxes report has to be talked about along with details of the action they have taken so far and plan to take in the future. Given that the government’s credit is at stake, the letter has spurred the state government into action.
The secretariat has also informed the Chief Minister about the legal and technical nuances of the appraisal report along with information of the Election Commission letter. MP government officials, along with state police service officer Arun Mishra and three IPS officers B. Madhukumar, Sanjay Mane and Sushobhan Banerjee, have been named in the report. The names of some ministers, MLAs and Congress leaders and MLAs are also present.
