Monsoon Session update: LS adjourned till 2pm amid rukus; Opposition walks out of RS

On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha will consider and perhaps pass the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which was tabled on Tuesday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed the opposition members’ protests and asserted that the Constitution gave the Parliament the authority to pass any laws pertaining to Delhi.

On Tuesday, three laws were approved by the Rajya Sabha despite opposition objections. These laws were the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2023, the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill 2023, and the Mediation Bill 2021. Voice vote was used to pass the bills. Additionally, the House has received two introduced measures.

The debate regarding the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi administration over the violence in Manipur and other hot-button issues will take place in the Lok Sabha from August 8 to 10. A parliamentary battle between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the recently formed Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) began on July 26 when Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla admitted a notice for a no-confidence motion from Congress lawmaker Gaurav Gogoi.
