Mobile distribution centres in Rajasthan lack restrooms

Across the state, there is an ongoing initiative to distribute smartphones, with tenders worth lakhs of rupees being allocated for this purpose. However, when it comes to the arrangements, there is a glaring lack of basic facilities like restrooms, especially for women, in the mobile distribution centres. This issue is particularly evident at the block level in Shridungargarh, Rajasthan.
While all the arrangements are in place at the mobile distribution centre in the Veer Teja Nagar block, fundamental amenities, such as restroom facilities, are notably absent. Every day, scores of women visit the centre to acquire mobile phones, but they are facing significant difficulties due to the lack of restroom facilities.
Women who come from rural areas or students who wait in line for hours to get their mobile phones are forced to endure this inconvenience. This problem extends to female employees and police constables as well. Despite repeated complaints, the authorities have not addressed this issue.
The officials responsible for mobile phone distribution are primarily focused on collecting data related to daily distributions and seem to be completely ignoring such public issues. There is an urgent need for the construction and maintenance of proper restroom facilities at these mobile distribution centres to ensure the comfort and dignity of the visitors. Additionally, the existing restroom facilities at these centres have fallen into disrepair, are filled with dirt, and lack proper sanitation measures. Immediate attention is required to address these concerns and ensure that basic amenities are provided for all visitors.
