The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday highlighted the considerable improvement in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, reiterating the Government of India’s steadfast commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
In response to a query regarding the security scenario in J&K, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nityananad Rai, stated that there has been a notable decline in terrorist-initiated incidents in the region. He cited statistics indicating a decrease from 153 incidents in 2019 to 125 in 2022, with only 46 such incidents reported in 2023. Rai further outlined the decrease in encounters and counter-terror operations over the years, noting a decline from 102 incidents in 2019 to 48 in 2023. Similarly, civilian casualties in terrorist-related incidents have shown a downward trend, with 14 civilians killed in 2023 compared to 44 in 2019.
Regarding security personnel casualties, the reply indicated a decline from 80 deaths in 2019 to 30 in 2023, reflecting improved safety measures and operational efficiency. Additionally, the number of terrorists neutralized by security forces has remained consistent, with 73 terrorists killed in 2023 compared to 157 in 2019.
The data presented by the Ministry underscores the concerted efforts of security forces in maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.
