The School of Law at Manipal University Jaipur recently organized a Legal Awareness Camp in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Jaipur. The camp, held at Jhalana Basti, Jaipur, aimed to enhance awareness and understanding of policy implementation, particularly at the grassroots level.
Notable guests, including Ashka Rao (Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Jaipur, and Additional District and Sessions Judge) and Priyanka Acharya (Advocate at District and High Court), actively participated in the event. They not only graced the occasion but also provided valuable assistance to attendees in addressing their legal concerns.
Government policies and schemes, guided by the Constitution’s Directive Principles and State Policy, are intended to promote welfare and equitable justice. However, their true impact is realized when they are effectively implemented at the grassroots level, benefiting marginalized and underprivileged sections of society.
To identify policies awaiting implementation, students conducted a survey involving 200 people, revealing concerns such as poor sanitation, lack of beneficiary scheme cards, issues with Anganwadi education, absence of tap water, electricity cuts, and delays in government dispensaries’ operations.
In response to these findings, the Legal Awareness Camps were organised, serving not only to raise awareness among Jhalana Basti residents but also to provide a platform for them to voice their concerns. The Pro Bono Club, a student-led initiative at the School of Law, plans to continue organising such events in the future to support the disadvantaged people in the community.
