After an investigation lasting nearly six weeks, the Mumbai police have pressed charges against the father of a minor who was reportedly driving a vehicle that struck a senior citizen outside his Chandivali society.
The Sakinaka police found that 40-year-old Shamshul Khan, the father of the 14-year-old driver, had left the car’s keys in a way that made it accessible to his son.
The incident occurred on September 6 when the vehicle hit the senior citizen outside Orchid Enclave society, resulting in injuries. While no immediate action was taken, the case gained attention after a video of the incident went viral, prompting the police to initiate an inquiry.
An official involved in the case stated that their investigation revealed the father’s responsibility in accordance with sections of the Motor Vehicle Act and the Indian Penal Code. These sections specify that if a minor is found driving, their guardian will be held accountable in such situations. As of now, no arrests have been made in the case.
