A significant security lapse has been exposed at Jammu’s Central Jail as a smartphone, identified as a ‘POCO’ model from a Chinese manufacturer, was recovered from a Lashkar terrorist. The seized device is now in the possession of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, who are set to file an FIR in connection with the incident.
The recovered smartphone was found in the possession of Habib, son of Haz Sheru, and resident of Haria Chak in Kathua. Jammu and Kashmir Police are investigating the breach to determine how the smartphone made its way into the high-security prison.
Sources indicate that the security breach has prompted action from Central Intelligence Agencies, as the possession of a smartphone by a terrorist within the jail poses a potential threat to the state’s security. Authorities are collaborating closely to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter.
Habib, already charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in January last year, was implicated in a case involving the interception of a drone (Hexacopter) and the recovery of rounds of UBGL and Magnetic Bombs near Dhalli area under the jurisdiction of district Kathua. The NIA charged Habib, along with other terrorists Faisal Muneer, Mian Sohail, Muni Mohd, Rashid, and Lashkar terror commander Sajjad Gul, under various sections of the IPC, UA (P) Act, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act.
The NIA investigations revealed that, under the direction of Sajjad Gul, the accused had been collecting, receiving, and transporting weapons dropped by drones to terrorists in the Kashmir valley. This revelation underscores the seriousness of the security breach within the Central Jail and the potential risks associated with such unauthorized access to communication devices by incarcerated terrorists.
The situation has triggered heightened security measures, with law enforcement agencies committed to a thorough inquiry and preventive actions to mitigate future security threats.
