Madras HC allows AIADMK poll proceedings, directs not to declare results

The Madras High Court on Sunday stated that AIADMK could continue the election proceedings for the General Secretary post, however, court further directed that the results could not be announced.

Notably, the HC was hearing a petition filed on Saturday by the O Panneerselvam faction against the election to the post of AIADMK’s general secretary. The order issued by the Justice K Kumaresh Babu reads that the results of General Secretary elections shouldn’t be declared till the disposal of applications.

The application was filed by Manoj Pandian and others to seek the interim relief. The HC decided to continue further arguments on the interim plea on 22 March. The election for the post of general secretary of AIADMK is scheduled to take place on 26 March.

In a statement earlier on Saturday, the OPS faction stated that, “Against the AIADMK bylaw, the election to the post of General Secretary was announced which is illegal.”

The statement further added that, “Meanwhile few people are spreading the news that AIADMK Coordinator O Pannerselvam has also filed nomination for the General Secretary post. This is only to create confusion among the cadres. This is totally false news.”

Earlier, AIADMK revealed that the polls to elect the party General Secretary will be held on 26 March.
