Macron expected to meet Palestinian President, as Israel visit gets underway

The office of the leader of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday in Ramallah, according to The Times of Israel. Macron is the most recent of several Western leaders to visit Israel in show of support following the Hamas attacks on October 7. But in the midst of the crisis, he would be the first to visit the West Bank headquarters of the Palestinian Authority. The Times of Israel claims that the French presidency did not immediately confirm the meeting. He met with his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog upon arriving in Israel to declare his nation’s “full solidarity” with the Jewish state in the wake of the October 7 massacres carried out by the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

After this the French President reached Tel Aviv, and met with families of French and French-Israeli nationals killed in the Hamas attack or being held hostage by terrorists in Gaza.
He was later due to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to express France’s “full solidarity” with Israel, the French presidency said, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Macron’s visit takes place more than two weeks after Hamas attack on Israel, killing at least 1,400 people, the majority of them were civilians who were shot, mutilated, or burned to death, including in their homes and at an outdoor music festival. Thirty of them were citizens of France, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Additionally, at least 224 people were taken hostages and brought to Gaza.
