Kharge launches election campaign from Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sounded the boll bugle from Chhattisgarh on Sunday as he attended the government’s ‘Bharose Ka Sammelan’ programme in Janjgir-Champa district of the state. Kharge, while addressing the gathering at the event, said that the Congress wanted the Prime minister to make a statement in the Parliament on Manipur incident but he could not break his code of silence. Manipur has been burning from the past four months, five thousand houses were set on fire, thousands of people were forced to leave their houses, women were raped but the head of the country is just ignoring the violence, he said.
Lashing out at the BJP, the Congress president said that it is shameful that instead of discussing the Manipur violence and answering the Opposition’s questions in the Parliament, the prime minister was focused on cracking jokes on the Congress party. Earlier, Kharge was given a warm welcome by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. During the programme, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched a total of 1,043 development works worth lakhs of crores of rupees. These include the inauguration of 192 development works.
The Chief Minister said that five years back, the condition of farmers was terrible, corruption and commission system was in vogue. He added that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh strengthened the position of the farmers, transferred money directly to the farmers’ accounts without any middlemen and bought 107 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from farmers. The government also kept its promise of loan waiver to farmers.
