Kerala: Train catches fire at Kannur train station

In the early hours of Thursday, a fire started in an Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train at the Kannur railway station.
The incident happened as the train was stopped at the station. One of the train’s coaches was where the fire started. Railway authorities and the fire department acted quickly after receiving the information to put out the fire. The coach, however, was totally destroyed.
No casualties were recorded in the incident, said railway officials.
Authorities said that some criminal activity was to blame for the occurrence. The police opened an inquiry. A forensic team is anticipated at the location.
This episode is notable since it happened after the arson on the same train in April of this year, when three people died and numerous others suffered burns. Shahrukh Saifi (27), a native of Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, was charged with dousing certain passengers in an ignitable liquid to light them on fire.
Following the train arson attack case, Saifi was detained by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra police and Central Intelligence.
On April 2, Saifi sprayed some passengers on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express at Elathur in Kozhikode with an ignitable substance in an effort to set them on fire. While attempting to jump from the train to get away from the fire, three passengers perished. Later, Saifi was taken into custody in Ratnagiri.
