KCR introduces landmark Revenue Bill in Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad: In a move to do away with the rampant corruption prevalent in the Revenue Department in the state of Telangana, the government of Telangana on Wednesday abolished the system of Village Revenue Officers.

 In the ongoing Monsoon Session in the State Assembly, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao introduced the new Revenue Bill 2020. After introducing the Bill, the CM said the Bill is aimed to address all land related disputes on a permanent basis. It paves the way for digitisation of revenue records and land transactions to simplify the registration process, he added.

He further said that citizens would soon be able to transfer both agricultural and non-agricultural properties on the click-of-a-button through the upcoming Dharani portal. The Bills have been introduced to bring transparency in land administration and simplify the registration process, thereby, minimising the human interference, he stressed.

He announced that the Dharani web portal will be activated soon to make it easy for the public to access data pertaining to the land records of the entire state. The entire registration process will be carried out digitally by visiting the offices of the Sub-Registrar or the Mandal Revenue Officer only once. An estimated 90 lakh properties in local bodies have been already digitised to carry out these transactions digitally. The entire land or property data will be available online and thus, preventing unauthorised or illegal transactions, he informed. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party in the state took a dig at the CM for abolishing the Village Revenue Officer’s system. Congress MP Komatareddy Venkat Reddy said that if there is any problem with corruption, such corrupt people should be punished but it’s wrong to abolish the whole system.

“Who will punish this corrupt government of KCR,” he quipped. He said the corruption in Telangana started with the family of KCR only and it will be weeded out only with the abolition of this government.

Clarifying on the issue of abolition of the posts of Village Revenue Officers (VROs) and Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs), the CM informed that about 20,000 VRAs will be given scale posts in different government departments as per their qualification. Similarly, about 5,480 VROs will be accommodated in different departments.

Meanwhile, an Additional Collector Nagesh was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of whooping Rs. 1.12 crore on Wednesday.
