Kashmir Shivers as Sub-Zero Temperatures and Thick Fog Blanket the Valley

Winter’s icy embrace tightens its grip on Kashmir, plunging the valley into sub-zero temperatures and cloaking it in thick fog. The morning scene in Srinagar unfolded with an ethereal veil of mist, severely limiting visibility and creating challenges for early risers.
Sunday night witnessed a chilling drop in temperatures across Kashmir, with Srinagar, the summer capital, recording a bone-chilling minimum of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius—1.2 degrees below the seasonal norm. Simultaneously, the city saw a decrease in the maximum temperature, settling at 12.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Shopian claimed the title of the coldest locale in the valley, with temperatures plummeting to an astonishing minus 3.8 degrees Celsius overnight. Pahalgam, nestled in the south, secured the second spot on the frosty list, reporting temperatures as low as minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.
In the northern reaches, Bandipora recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius, while the renowned Gulmarg experienced a crisp minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.
The dense fog that embraced Srinagar in the early hours not only painted a picturesque but eerie landscape but also posed practical challenges for commuters navigating through limited visibility.
Looking ahead, the meteorological forecast anticipates the persistence of dry weather across the valley for the next 48 hours, ensuring that winter’s chill maintains its hold on the region.
