The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the third and final list of ten candidates for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections on Monday. This comes just days after it announced 23 candidates in the second list and 189 candidates in the first list for Karnataka’s single-phase voting on May 10.
The party replaced its seasoned leader Aravind Limbavali in the Mahadevapura seat with his wife Manjula Aravind Limbavali. This comes after the BJP delayed offering a ticket to Aravind Limbavali, who has been an MLA from this seat since 2008, amid rumors that he was in contact with the Congress. Mahadevapura made headlines last year after heavy rains submerged many areas in this constituency. It also houses a number of multinational corporations and housing societies.
The list also includes the Hubli-Dharwad-Central constituency, where former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has expressed interest in running. From this seat, the party announced the appointment of Mahesh Tenginakai as state general secretary.
On Saturday, Congress released its third list of candidates, which includes at least 16 new faces for the upcoming assembly elections. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s request to announce his name from Kolar as a second seat was denied by the grand old party. He was previously announced in the first list from his home turf of Varuna.
