Kapil Sharma duped of Rs 5.5 crore by Chhabria, police record statement

Comedian Kapil Sharma recorded his statement to The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Police. This call was with respect to connection with car designer Dilip Chhabria’s alleged cheating and criminal misappropriation done to Kapil. Kapil had filed a complaint against Dilip Chhabria for allegedly cheating him.

The Kapil Sharma Show host who was here at Mumbai Police Commisioner’s office to record his statement said, “I had given order of making a vanity van to Chhabria’s DC Designs Pvt Ltd in 2017 and paid Rs 5.3 crore. In 2018 I was asked to pay further Rs 40 lakh as Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was again paid. Even after full payment was made van was never delivered to me. Recently I came to know that Chhabria is arrested by Mumbai police, since I already registered complaint about it, today I met Mumbai Commissioner of Police for the same and requested for investigation”.

In 2019 Sharma moved to National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) against DC Designs after realising that there wasn’t much progress in the van. NCLT then conducted preliminary enquiry and seized the company’s accounts. Chhabria after NCLT order asked Sharma for more Rs 60 lakh for delivery of the van, but Sharma denied. Chhabria then sent a bill of Rs 12-13 lakh as a parking charges of vehicle parts. Later even after more than two years Sharma did not receive the van and he approached Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai police and lodged his complaint.

Joint CP Crime, Milind Bharambe talking to media said, “Today Kapil Sharma met our investigation team and gave his statement about his complaint . We are in the process of registering an offence of cheating and criminal misappropriation into the allegations and the further probe will be conducted by Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) of the Mumbai crime branch.

On December 28, the Mumbai Police had arrested Chhabria following a complaint of cheating and forgery and also seized one of his luxury cars. He was nabbed from his workshop in Andheri’s MIDC, sending shockwaves in the country’s automobiles and finance fraternity.
